STEPANAKERT, MARCH 12, ARTSAKHPRESS:  James Warlick's remark came in response to Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent's request to comment on the issue of Arsen Baghdasaryan who wast taken captive by Azerbaijan.

“Together with the French and Russian Co-Chairs of the Minsk Group, we raised with Azerbaijan the need to permit ICRC access to Mr. Baghdasaryan,” he said.

Asked about the deaths of Armenian captives in Azerbaijani jails, Warlick said the United States has also called for investigations into the deaths of prisoners and others in detention, including in the case of Karen Petrosyan’s death last summer.

“In the past, the sides have found a way to return prisoners and detainees. We hope that humanitarian practice will continue,” he added.

As reported earlier, representatives of the U.S. State Department have repeatedly stated the need for humane treatment of Azerbaijani citizens Dilham Askerov and Shahbaz Guliyev convicted in Nagorno-Karabakh.
