CSTO to elect new secretary general in December

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) leaders have decided to elect the the new secretary general's electin on December 6 in St. Petersburg, the Russian news agency Tass reports, citing the Kremlin spokesman.

STEPANAKERT, NOVEMBER 9, ARTSAKHPRESS: "We have dedicated a significant amount of time to discuss the election of the new CSTO Secretary General. We have decided to take a final decision on December 6 in St Petersburg. So far, the Acting [Secretary General] will resume his duties until December 6," Dmitry Peskov told reporters, Tert.am reports.
He added that the CSTO leaders will meeting on December 6, not ruling out the possibility of another key interrstate event, a meeting of EEU (Eurasian Economic Union) member states' leaders and an informal summit bringing together top officials from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Earlier, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev told reporters that no decision has been made on the new secretary general of the CSTO at the summit, adding that Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov will serve as Acting CSTO Secretary General.

"No decision has been made, they will decide a little later. Meanwhile, Semerikov will serve as Acting [CSTO Secretary General]," Patrushev said.
