Lucy Kocharyan, a journalist from Armenia, was one of the few to receive the 2020 International Women of Courage Award of the US Department of State. The award was personally handed to her by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and First Lady Melania Trump, news.am reports, referring to the Voice of America.

STEPANAKERT, MARCH 5, ARTSAKHPRESS: Kocharyan is the journalist who posted on Facebook the stories of Armenian women subjected to violence. According to Lucy, the reaction of the Armenian society, however, was mostly negative. Armenian Prime Minister’s wife Anna Hakobyan, who is in Washington DC on a one-day working visit, was also present at this event at the Department of State. According to Lucy Kocharyan, Hakobyan's presence there was a pleasant surprise for her. Lucy Kocharyan, the first woman to represent Armenia who has received this high award from the US Department of State, notes that voicing this issue can play an equally important role in resolving it.
