Arayik Harutyunyan considers agriculture as the locomotive of Artsakh's economic development

STEPANAKERT, NOVEMBER 4,  ARTSAKHPRESS: Former Prime Minister of Artsakh Republic and Head of the “Free Motherland” party, Arayik Harutyunyan, expressed such an opinion delivering a lecture on "Prospects of Economic Development of Artsakh" at Yerevan State Institute of Economics on November 4.

He noted that today war requires much more resources than before, and therefore, he considers economic indicators more significant.
“ If during the past 10 years, the economic growth of Artsakh  has been mainly provided by energy development, mining and agriculture, which has led to the increase of the service sector, then agriculture will be the main locomotive in the next 10 years, as the potential in hydropower will be exhausted by 2022-23.

That is, where it is possible to build stations, are being constructed or works are in progress. As a result, the average annual output of 90 million kWh of 2007 will reach 1 billion 100 million, which will enable  to provide Artsakh with renewable, cheap energy over the next 50 years, which in turn will allow Artsakh abandon oil and gas resources, " Harutyunyan noted, adding that they  faced the task to move to using electric cars by 2040.

According to Araik Harutyunyan, there are many pilot projects in the sphere of agriculture in Artsakh.

The second important direction is sheep breeding.

According to the leader of the Free Homeland Party, sheep breeding is the only direction that international price is much higher than the domestic one.

“If we can bring the agricultural GDP to 250-300 million dollars, it means the GDP will amount to 2-2.5 billion dollars. This is our main direction,” Harutyunyan concluded.
