The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has confirmed it has received the ArmenianConstitutional Court’s application regarding the case of ex-President Robert Kocharyan, the Constitutional Court’s staff informed.
ECHR to examine Armenian Constitutional Court’s application on Kocharyan case as priority
STEPANAKERT, AUGUST 7, ARTSAKHPRESS-ARMENPRESS: According to a statement from the Constitutional Court, the ECHR has also said that the case will be examined as a priority.
Kocharyan is currently jailed amid a trial over his alleged “overthrowing of constitutional order” during the 2008 unrest in Yerevan.
His case was sent to the Constitutional Court by a lower court in Armenia, however the Constitutional Court itself halted proceedings and forwarded it to the ECHR and the Venice Commission for consultative opinions.
